Author Profile

Dr. Barkha Chaplot got her degrees of B.A. and M.A. in Geography from Mohanlal Sukhadia University. She was also a gold medallist in postgraduate. She obtained her doctorate degree in Geography from the same university. She qualified UGCNET and JRF in Geography. Presently, she is working as Dr. S. Radha Krishnan PostDoctoral Fellow (UGC) at Department of Geography, Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur. To her credit, there are nine published research papers especially in the field of Population and Urban Geographies. She has presented 15 research papers in various national and international conferences, participated in various workshops and accomplished several certificate & training courses. She also won young geographer award for the best paper presentation in the seminar. Dr. Barkha Chaplot is the life member of academic bodies of RGA (Bhilwara), GAG (Goa) and KGA (Sindhudurg). Dr. Shamshad obtained the degrees of B.A., M.A., B.Ed. and Ph.D. from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. He qualified Joint CSIRUGC (JRF) in Earth Sciences, UGC (NET) in Geography and also CTET in Educational Pedagogy. He was a Research Fellow under the UGCSAPDRSIII Programme at Department of Geography, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh and currently working as a PostDoctoral Fellow in the same department. His major fields of research interest are Population, Rural and Urban Geographies. He has a great commitment in research, and hence, to his credit, the three books and more than seventy research papers in various edited books/proceedings and reputed national & international journals have been published. He has also presented more than fifty research papers in various national and international conferences, delivered lecturers in seminars, accomplished a dozen training & professional courses and participated in several workshops. He also received two Young Geographer Awards for the best paper presentation in seminars. Dr. Shamshad is the life member of various geographical societies like NAGI (New Delhi), GAG (Goa), IRDS (Kanpur), INCA (Hyderabad), RGA, (Bhilwara) and APA, (Patiala).

About The Book

The every place should be environmentally friendly, economically viable, socially acceptable and politically tenable for the betterment of human life. Udaipur city known as 'City of Lakes' is one of the most natural and beautiful cities of the world which also has become a one of the destination for the tourists as well as for innumerable inmigrants in the state of Rajasthan but on going unplanned developmental activities, lopsided policies, shrinking manland ratio, lack of administrative commitments, etc. are continuously deteriorating living environmental conditions of the city. Moreover, the city as a part of smart city project, the authorities primarily should focus on present problems of the city along with the speculated problems in near future. Therefore, 'Perspectives of Urban Development: A Micro Level Study' dealing with the socioeconomic characteristics of population, growth and development of the city, availability of infrastructure facilities, problems and the prospects of urban development of the city, may give new directions and guidelines to the planners, policy makers and administrators to make Udaipur as a model of smart city for rest of the cities of the country. Since, the book may enable the planners and administrators to investigate the real problems of the cities and needs & demands of the population so that the pragmatic models can be formulated for the rest of the world. Thus, it is hoped that this book will be highly useful for the students, teachers, researchers, planners and administrators involved in various fields of social sciences especially human geography, sociology, urban planning, population studies, demography, economics, political sciences, etc.
