Dr. Mohd. Sadiq Salman is presently working as Project Fellow in UGC Sponsored Major Research Project in the Department of Geography, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. He did his graduation with first division in 2002 and was awarded Undergraduate University Merit Scholarship throughout the course. Further, after completing his Masters and M.Phil. with first division he obtained his Ph.D. from the same department in 2013. He also qualified UGC-NET and was awarded Post-Doctoral Fellowship in 2014 from ICSSR, New Delhi. Besides, Dr. Salman has worked as Senior Research Assistant (SRA) and Research Assistant (RA) in two different projects funded by Uttar Pradesh Council of Science and Technology (UPCST), Lucknow. Dr. Salman has attended 22 conferences and 8 workshops and published two dozen research papers in peer reviewed and indexed national and international journals. His research papers are published by journals of Canada, Romania, Indonesia, Germany and Slovenia. He has two books to his credit and was also awarded travel grant in 2010 to attend the International Conference held in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. He also received Best Paper Award (Bronze) as Co-author at ASEAN Conference held in Malaysia, 2011. Apart from his research accomplishments he also taught undergraduate classes in the department of Geography during his post-doctoral research.

About The Book

The continuous fragmentation of agricultural land along with increasing population, input costs and declining profits has created a dilemma for the rural population. In this scenario the use of "common land resources" (CLR) is a boon for rural masses especially for landless people, marginal and small farmers. The benefits of CLR can be obtained only after access to these resources which is governed by various socio- economic and cultural parameters. The present book divided into five chapters elaborates the various studies undertaken by various scholars pertaining to different aspects of CLR. It analyzes not only the spatio-temporal distribution and change in the CLR over the last decades. The results obtained through intensive field work elaborate the accessibility to common lands, different modes of utilization, variation in the benefits obtained by the CLR and share of CLR income to total income of the users. Further, relationship of different socio- economic factors with the access, use, intensity, mode of utilization and income from CLR in the study area was also explored. Although the results represent the micro level status of CLR and its relationships with the different socio-economic factors but this study can also be considered as a model to study the dynamics of CLR in different agro- climatic regions of the country.
