Author Profile

Wayne Sullivan is a globally recognized authority in international healthcare systems, healthcare administration, and medical travel, bringing over two decades of executive experience to his definitive guide, Medical Tourism. Sullivan’s insights are built on a rock-solid foundation of academic excellence and real-world leadership. He holds a Master of Health Administration (MHA) from Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) specializing in International Business from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. This rare combination of advanced healthcare strategy and global business acumen allows him to analyze the medical tourism industry through both a clinical and an economic lens. Before shifting his focus to writing and global consultancy, Sullivan served as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Global Health Horizons, where he oversaw the cross-border care transitions of tens of thousands of patients. He has spent years on the ground evaluating healthcare facilities across Asia, Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East. His work has focused on auditing patient safety protocols, negotiating corporate healthcare packages, and aligning international hospitals with Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation standards. As a sought-after speaker and policy advisor, Sullivan has collaborated with ministries of health and international medical tourism associations to draft frameworks that protect patient rights and elevate care standards worldwide. His research on price transparency, ethical considerations in cross-border care, and post-operative continuity of care has been featured in leading publications like the Harvard Business Review and the Journal of International Healthcare Management.

About The Book

Medical Tourism stands as a definitive, ground-breaking exploration of one of the fastest-growing and most transformative sectors in the global economy. In an era where traditional boundaries are dissolving, this comprehensive volume serves as both a masterclass and an essential roadmap for navigating the complex convergence of international travel, advanced healthcare, and global economics. It meticulously charts how the quest for wellness has evolved from local consultations to a multi-billion-dollar global phenomenon, driving millions of patients to cross borders each year in search of high-quality, cost-effective medical treatments. The narrative dives deep into the profound forces reshaping modern healthcare delivery. It shifts the perspective from a localized necessity to a dynamic international market. Readers are taken on an analytical journey that unpacks the core catalysts behind this healthcare revolution. What sets this book apart is its uncompromising neutrality and balance. Rather than simply celebrating the expansion of global medical travel, it acts as a critical examiner of the intricate trade-offs involved. The text provides an objective look at both the immense opportunities and the systemic risks. The book serves as a practical, comprehensive guide across the entire spectrum of medical travel. It breaks down complex medical jargon and operational frameworks into digestible segments, covering everything from life-saving cardiac surgeries and orthopedics to elective cosmetic treatments, advanced dental tourism, and holistic wellness retreats. By analyzing the role of international accreditation, rigorous quality standards, and patient safety protocols, it equips patients, medical facilitators, and healthcare executives with the vital knowledge needed to make informed, risk-mitigated decisions. Whether you are a healthcare professional mapping out international expansion, a policy maker analyzing the economic impact on public health systems, a researcher studying global trade, or an individual considering treatment abroad, Medical Tourism is an indispensable resource. It does not just document a trend; it perfectly captures the structural shifts that will dictate how humanity accesses health, healing, and well-being for decades to come.
