About The Book

The field of moral psychology has long wrestled with a fundamental question: Do men and women navigate the landscape of right and wrong differently? For decades, mainstream psychology treated male development as the universal standard, often mischaracterising women's distinct ethical frameworks as deficit. This book provides a definitive, interdisciplinary exploration of Gender and Moral Psychology, dismantling historical biases to map how identity, socialization, and neuroscience intersect to shape our ethical worldview. From the foundational debates of justice versus care to the modern complexities of digital ethics and intersectionality, this text offers an essential roadmap for understanding human morality in all its diversity. The text opens by establishing the historical and philosophical bedrock of the discipline. It traces the evolution of moral philosophy from early essentialist viewpoints to modern empirical frameworks. Readers will examine how early psychological paradigms inadvertently institutionalised gender bias, and how feminist critiques successfully reframed the boundaries of ethical inquiry to include voices that had been systematically marginalized.
