Author Profile

Terry Bryant holds a Ph.D. in Historiography and Performance Studies from Cambridge University. He is a leading authority on world stage evolutions. Dr. Bryant has spent three decades unearthing scripts and decoding performance spaces globally. In History of Theater, he synthesizes this lifetime of research into a definitive chronicle. He masterfully guides readers from the ritualistic Origins of Theater in Ancient Civilizations to the architectural grandeur of Classical Greek Theater. He unpacks the raw politics of Roman Theater and Spectacle, tracks the religious shift into Medieval Theater in Europe, and explores the poetic explosion of Renaissance and Elizabethan Theater. Dr. Bryant provides sharp analysis on the strict rules of Neoclassicism and Enlightenment Theater, the shifting societal mirrors in NineteenthCentury Theater and Realism, and the bold rulebreaking of Modernist Movements in TwentiethCentury Theater. Finally, he maps the boundarypushing dynamics of Contemporary Global Theater. This book stands as a powerful testament to human expression, curated by one of the finest theatrical minds of our generation.
