Author Profile

Harrison Blake is a distinguished computer scientist, visionary technologist, and pioneering researcher in the field of decentralized architectures and cyber-physical systems. With over two decades of experience spanning both cutting-edge industrial R&D and elite academic instruction, Blake has established himself as one of the definitive voices in the evolution of the Internet of Things (IoT). Blake’s academic foundation began at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. His doctoral thesis on Dynamic Resource Allocation in Low-Power Wide-Area Networks (LPWAN) laid early, crucial groundwork for the massive, scalable device deployments that define the modern IoT landscape. Following his research at MIT, he transitioned to the Silicon Valley tech sector, serving as the Chief IoT Architect at Nexus Cybernetics, where he led the development of enterprise-grade industrial automation frameworks and smart grid solutions. Currently, Dr. Blake serves as a Professor of Practice in Networked Systems at the Stanford Center for Connected Infrastructures. Bridging the gap between dense theoretical concepts and real-world execution, his lab focuses on the intersection of Edge Computing, TinyML, and End-to-End IoT Security. He has contributed to over fifty peer-reviewed journal articles, holds a dozen patents in sensor node optimization, and frequently serves as a keynote speaker at premier global tech summits like IEEE and the World IoT Congress.

About The Book

The phrase The Internet of Things encapsulates one of the most profound technological migrations in human history: the transformation of passive, silent objects into active, data-driven nodes of a global network. Internet of Things describes the construction of an invisible, intelligent infrastructure a "Silent Intelligence" that works quietly behind the scenes to alter human behavior. From smart grids balancing energy distribution autonomously to early earthquake warning networks triggered by smartphone gyroscopes, the technology fundamentally shifts our relationship with the built environment. IoT represents the moment humanity successfully mapped its digital consciousness onto the physical world, turning the planet itself into a responsive, real-time operating system. Internet of Things (IoT) refers to physical and virtual objects that have unique identities and are connected to the internet to facilitate intelligent applications that make energy, logistics, industrial control, retail, agriculture and many other domains "smarter". Internet of Things is a new revolution of the Internet that is rapidly gathering momentum driven by the advancements in sensor networks, mobile devices, wireless communications, networking and cloud technologies. This book is written as a textbook on Internet of Things for educational programs at colleges and universities, and also for IoT vendors and service providers who may be interested in offering a broader perspective of Internet of Things to accompany their own customer and developer training programs. The text introduces the reader to advanced topics on IoT including IoT data analytics and Tools for IoT.
