About The Book

Action Plan and Priorities in Tourism Development stands as a definitive, blueprint-driven masterwork for students, policymakers, urban planners, and hospitality executives. It shifts the narrative of tourism from a passive byproduct of economic growth into a highly structured, deliberately engineered vehicle for sustainable regional transformation. By bypassing vague theoretical advice, this comprehensive book delivers an exhaustive operational framework. It bridges the gap between ambitious institutional policy and ground-level execution, ensuring that tourism planning balances environmental protection with commercial success. The book opens with a powerful thesis: unmanaged tourism is an extractive industry that erodes the very assets it relies on. The author advocates for a paradigm shift toward integrated destination management. The text challenges standard "boosterism", the reckless drive to increase raw visitor numbers without considering carrying capacity and replaces it with value-driven, structured frameworks. The text breaks down complex macroeconomic challenges into distinct, actionable priority sectors. Designing forward and backward economic linkages (connecting tourism directly to local agriculture, crafts, and fisheries) to keep revenue within host communities. Adapting urban planning principles to regulate land use, build climate-resilient infrastructure, and manage environmental impacts. Providing blueprints to develop ecotourism, cultural heritage routes, MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions), and seasonal travel strategies to combat overtourism. Structuring legally and financially viable frameworks that leverage private capital while protecting public assets and community interests. Action Plan and Priorities in Tourism Development treats tourism as a strict discipline of project management. It features practical templates for SWOT analyses, monitoring matrices, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
